CHANGES TO THE 2020 PROCESS

In light of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the Missouri Republican State Committee has voted to change the 2020 caucus and convention process. The RNC has approved a waiver to allow Missouri to conduct its Congressional District Conventions by mail-in ballot. Congressional District ballots were delivered to delegates and alternates in mid-May, and results will be announced on May 30.

We expect the RNC to grant a waiver to allow Missouri to conduct our State Convention by mail-in ballot as well. Please see below for additional information about the new process.

STATE CONVENTION BALLOT PROCESS

When will I receive my ballot?
You will receive an official ballot in the mail in mid-to-late June. We ask that you promptly complete and return the ballot using the envelope that will be provided.

What will appear on the ballot?
Each ballot will include the following questions:

  • National Delegate and Alternate Slates
  • National Committeeman
  • National Committeewoman
  • Presidential Elector Slates
  • Ratification of Electors Elected at Congressional District Conventions
  • Approval of the Platform

How do I submit a nomination for one of the positions above?
State Convention delegates (but not alternates) may nominate a national delegate/alternate slate, presidential elector slate, National Committeeman, or National Committeewoman for consideration by the convention. These must be submitted to MRP Chairwoman Kay Hoflander no later than 5:00 pm CDT on June 8, 2020. Due to ballot printing deadlines, submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted.

Any person making a nomination may include a statement of no more than 150 words in support of the nomination. The statement will be provided along with the official ballot. The statement is due no later than 5:00 pm CDT on June 8, 2020.

What are the requirements for national delegate slates?

  • The proposed slate must consist of the names and addresses of twenty-seven (27) delegates and twenty-seven (27) alternates to the national convention. (Only delegate names and cities will be published.) Only full and complete slates will be accepted.
  • All individuals on the slate must be registered voters residing in the State of Missouri, and no person shall be listed on any slate without his or her prior approval.
  • All delegates will be pledged to vote for Donald Trump at the National Convention.
  • The slate must be named.
  • Please note that results of the Congressional District Conventions will be posted on the MRP’s website (www.mogop.org) at the end of May. Be sure to confirm that your proposed slate does not include individuals already elected at the CD Conventions.

What are the requirements for presidential electors slates?

  • The slate must contain the names and addresses of two (2) proposed presidential electors. (Only Elector names and cities will be published.)
  • Pursuant to Article II of the US Constitution “no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.”

When will results be announced?
Results of the vote will be announced in early July.

Should Alternates participate?
Yes! All State Convention Alternates will receive alternate ballots, and we encourage you to complete and return them. Alternate ballots will be counted wherever delegate ballots are not returned.
