Claire McCaskill Tells Donors One Thing on Her Plan for Neil Gorsuch, and the Missouri Public Another

JEFFERSON CITY — Senator McCaskill has been known to change her story depending on her audience – and sometimes even when she’s speaking to the same audience. Unfortunately, when it comes to a matter as crucial as confirming Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court, McCaskill is still misleading Missourians.

On Tuesday (March 28th), McCaskill told a reporter she was “undecided” on whether she’d join her fellow Democrats in Washington to block Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation to the Supreme Court by filibuster.

McCaskill’s story to rich donors:

Just two days prior to her “undecided” comments, McCaskill held a fundraiser at a private home in Springfield, Missouri (some paid as much as $2,700 to get in the door) where she told donors that it’s better for her to give Judge Gorsuch a “yes” vote rather than face the threat of someone “worse” coming along after him.

“Worse” than Neil Gorsuch – one of the most highly qualified Supreme Court nominees in memory?  Judge Gorsuch’s record has earned him a broad base of bipartisan support and the highest endorsement of everyone from the American Bar Association to the National Rifle Association. A  majority of Americans believe Senate Democrats should allow a vote on Gorsuch, and more Americans than not believe that he should be confirmed.

President Trump, who nominated Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court, overwhelmingly won the state of Missouri by 18 (eighteen) points in the 2016 election.

“Claire McCaskill is telling her rich donors one thing in private and the general public something else,” said Missouri Republican Party Executive Director Austin Stukins. “We are calling on Claire McCaskill to tell Missourians the truth: does she plan to join her liberal friends in Washington and filibuster Judge Gorsuch, or will she vote to confirm him, reflecting the values of her constituents in Missouri?”
